Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.
